Seafarers Passport Renewal at DFA Cebu in less than 2 hours

If you’re a returning seafarer or an OFW, you can have your passport renewal at DFA Cebu. In less than 2 hours, you can have your passport renewed and be valid for 10 good years.

You don’t need to have an appointment to have your slot. As you know, OFWs have their dedicated lanes for their passport renewal.

There are seafarers assume that they are eligible for using OFW courtesy lanes. Let me clarify, as to those who did not get out of the country yet, make sure to have your appointment scheduled. You will be advised to get an appointment first.

What do I need to bring?

First off, you need to bring the following:

1. Current Passport

2. Seaman’s Book or SIRB

3. 1 Valid ID

4. Ballpen

In addition to that, you need to photocopy your current Passport’s data page, your SIRB’s data page, all sea service entries and the immigration stamps and back to back photocopy of your valid ID.

When should i go to DFA Cebu?

You do not need to be there early. Be there right before the Mall opens at 9am. The Consular Office will also start to accept applicants by that time.

The DFA Consular Office Cebu is located at Pacific Mall MC Bacalso St Corner U.N. Avenue Estancia, Mandaue City, 6014 Cebu. If you’re from Cebu City, you can ride 20A jeepneys from Ayala.

What should I do upon arriving at DFA Cebu Office?

Here are the step by step guidance on what you should to once you’re there. This will give you an idea on how the process flows.

Step 1: Once the mall opens, proceed to 4th floor where the DFA Consular Office is. Once your in the 4th floor, turn left after passing the main door. Go to the last door before the emergency exit. Ask the security guard for the application form for OFWs.

Step 2: Fill up the form clearly. Once you’re done, attach the photocopies listed above. Submit to the guard.

Step 3: Log your name. The guard will give you a small form, tick OFW, fill your name and signature, then provide date. Submit again to the guard and wait your name to be called.

Step 4: After verification, the guard will give you your application. Proceed to the processing door (Main door) and submit your form to the guards there. Wait for your name to be called. (approximately 1 hr)

Step 5: You will then be called, the line continues inside the processing area and wait for your turn.

Step 6: Your application is subject for review and verification for any errors or lack of requirements. The evaluator will tell you if your application is okay or not. If its all okay, proceed to the cashier.

Step 7: Pay the cashier. Regular Processing – 12 Working days costs Php 950. Express Processing – 7 Working days and costs Php 1,200. After your payment, proceed to the encoding section.

Step 8: Wait again for your name to be called. Once infront of the encoder, double check the entries they have entered.

Step 9: Once you’re done with the encoding, you are finished for the day.

What should I bring to claim my new passport?

You need to bring your old passport and the receipt of your payment.

Proceed directly to the Releasing area and wait for your name to be called.

Is there a dress code when transacting in DFA Cebu?

Yes! There is. The guards will distribute the waiver and reminders slip before you go in the Processing section.

Can’t get your passport? Just avail of the passport delivery service

If you are unable to claim your passport on the date indicated, you can just avail of the delivery service. Official currier partner LBC will deliver your passport in your chosen address. Just pay Php 150 for delivery fee and you’re all set.

Final thoughts…

This is an absolute 5 star service from the government. It is never been this convenient. An applicant does not spend more than 2 hours from start to finish.

This means that seafarers can go to other important things that they need to do. And because it is valid for one good decade, it may make us forget how to renew this passport 🙂
