Overseas Workers Welfare Administration or OWWA has so-called Seafarer’s Upgrading Program. Its OWWA free training for seafarers worth P 7,500.
This program is for Filipino seafarers to cope up with latest advancements and ever climbing global maritime standards. A seafarer has the luxury to choose which training course to enroll in a duly accredited training center.

What are the requirements?
The seafarer must have a valid OWWA membership contribution at the time of application and is entitled to avail of the program under any of the following condition:
First Availment:
When a seafarer first avail of the OWWA free training, he must have a single contribution to the OWWA membership. He/she can avail to this upon disembarkation even from his/her first contract overseas.
If the training you will enroll is more than P 7,500, you will shoulder the excess cost. While if it falls below P 7,500, only the exact training price will be paid out.

Succeeding Availment:
If a seafarer wish to avail of this program for the second or the third time, he/she must have 3 contribution to OWWA membership. This means we can avail again for this program only after 3 contracts overseas.
For succeeding availment of this program, a seafarer needs to file for application within 90 days from the latest date of arrival in the Philippines.
The seafarer needs the following documentary requirements:
- Proof of OWWA membership
- Accomplished Application Form
- Seafarer’s Identification & Record Book and/or Passport (valid original copy)
- 2”x2” Photo (2 copies)
If your requirements is complete…
You will be given a Notice of Award. You should then enroll and complete your training course within 45 days to avoid invalidity of your application for free training.
