SRN or Seafarer’s Registration Number is a Filipino seafarer’s unique number assigned by MARINA. This number is used in every transaction with the agency. It is a requirement for each Filipino seafarer to have a MARINA SRN.
Introduced sometime around 2016, this number was originally a part of SCS or Seafarer’s Certification System. The SCS is the predecessor of the newest MARINA online appointment system, the MISMO system.
Even after shifting to the new system in the last quarter of 2018, SRN was brought along with it. Consequently, it is still a requirement even in MISMO.
In this blog, we’ll talk about Seafarer’s Registration Number, its composition, importance and uses.

It says that every Filipino seafarer or wanna be seafarer shall have this unique number. Even if you are not a maritime graduate as long as you will be transacting in MARINA’s STCW Office, you need this.

When to get SRN?
A valid question. It is recommended that you create SRN via MISMO way before you will transact with the agency. Thus, you will not cram when the time comes that you’ll need it.
As early as you’re in the maritime school, you can create one. Registration does not need any documents yet. Just update your profile once you can provide the necessary information. But as of now, you can just Sign Up and Register at MISMO website.
For your information, it can cost you Php 100-200 just to create this simple process.
Why we need SRN?
With reference above, a seafarer or soon-to-be seafarer can not fully avail of the services from MARINA’s STCW Office if he/she doesn’t have SRN.
You need SRN in setting up appointment for COP Issuance or Revalidation, Theoretical and Practical Assessments.
So to sum it all, all these transaction won’t be possible without SRN. That’s how important this number is.
