Seafarers infected with COVID-19 in PH

The cases of COVID-19 in the country continue to grow with additional cases each day. Out of the total infections, there are 2 seafarers infected with COVID-19.

Seafarers with COVID-19: Case 1

The very first case of a seafarer infected with COVID-19 in the country is from Imus City, Cavite. The 48-year old male seafarer returns home from Japan via the Narita Airport. A country which is also badly hit by the virus.

He is confined at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) since the news came in on March 10, 2020. The seafarer is currently in stable condition per Gov. Jonvic Remulla.

According to Gov. Remulla, the Disease Surveillance Officer (DSO) has already initiated contact tracing and history of travels by the said seafarer.

In addition, 1 close contact sought voluntary consultation in 1 hospital in Cavite.

Seafarers with COVID-19: Case 2

The second seafarer with COVID-19 is from Abra province. He is a 39-year old seaman from Catacdegan Nuevo, Manabo.

He arrived from the Middle East on March 8, 2020, was already a PUI (Person Under Investigation) before he arrived in Abra and was advised that he undergo the 14 day self-quarantine but he didn’t informed anyone – Abrenian.com

Aggressive contact tracing is currently being done due to his movement history. He reportedly visited the town of Manabo, Sallapadan, and Licuan-Baay. He was also reported to have attended the Kawayan Festival.

As a result, a province wide curfew has been imposed from 9am-4am and placing both Barangay Catacdegan Nuevo and Viejo under barangay quarantine.
