There you have it, MARINA exams in Ilo-Ilo is a Go! After Manila, Cebu and Davao, MARINA’s theoretical exams will finally be possible to take in Ilo-Ilo.
Since this region is home to plenty Filipino seafarers, it is just right to bring the MARINA exams here. As no data is accurately available, the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) estimates that as many as half of the approximately 420,000 Filipino seafarers (as of end-September 2016) come from the area.
Also, Ilo-Ilo is home to one of the most respected maritime schools in the country, the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFU).
MARINA Exams in Ilo-Ilo is finally happening!
As shown here by the tweet, MARINA confirms that the plan to have a theoretical exam in MARINA’s Regional Office 6.
As shown in the pictures, the facility were inspected by MARINA’s Central Office personnel.

Finally, we are seeing some of the MARINA’s Central Office functions within its regional offices. Little by little, at least, we are seeing some change. We’re hoping for more functions to be in our regional offices.
Update as of July 2019
10 months after the announcement last September 2018, examination in MARINA Regional Office in Ilo-Ilo will formally start this July 14, 2019.
There have been plenty of works, logistics and installations to make this project a reality.
As already done in Cebu and Davao, MARINA Ilo-Ilo may also conduct GOC examination in the future.
The decentralization of STCW Office’s function from the Main Office in Manila is still in full display.
There may come a time that all processes may be done in respective provinces.
