Expired MARINA COC Renewal Guidelines

Is your MARINA COC already expired and you weren’t able to renew it before it happens? In this blog, we’re going to talk about expired MARINA COC renewal.

Let me emphasize that if you ever get your COC expired, prepare your pockets and time. It’s going to be a long ride.

Don’t let your COC Expire

It is of vital importance that you don’t let your COC or COP expire in the first place. Do not let that happen.

Now there are few valid reasons why COC will expire. You can avoid doing things such as:

Joining a vessel with too little allowance in time after disembarkation – you can avoid all these things by planning ahead of time. Never join a vessel when you know that you do not have enough time to process renewal once you disembark. You can easily calculate that.

Make your intentions clear with the office – make your intentions clear with your office and request repatriation for this reason. It is never wrong.

Do not know exactly what to renew or how to renew – use your network and ask if you are unsure. There is absolutely nothing wrong in asking.

Trusting the office way too much regarding own documents – do not trust the office to do the monitoring of your documents for you. It is your sole responsibility to do this.

Did not allocate money for this renewal process – do not give yourself this reason. You know it will come, so prepare for it.

Expired MARINA COC Renewal

The date of expiration of your COC and COP is likely the same. Therefore, it is imperative that you renew your COP also (STCW Safety Courses).

Whats worse is that if your COPs are expired, you need to take the FULL COURSE. Your BT COP is expired? Take FULL COURSE BT. PSCRB COP is expired? Take FULL COURSE PSCRB and so on.

However, as per MARINA Advisory No. 2021-49, the agency will accept drills and trainings onboard as evidence in lieu of corresponding refresher training.

This would mean that our weekly/monthly drills onboard is sufficient proof of our continuous competence. Thus, an attestation letter from the Master/Manning Agencies will serve as documentary evidence of this training.

Start by using MISMO

You can still renew your expired MARINA COC by using the MISMO platform. All you have to do is to gather the requirements as with normal revalidation plus practical examination. Thus, you have to take the practical examination again.

The other requirement which is 3 months supernumerary capacity is not so common and difficult to carry out. Hence, the practical assessment is the best option.

Sea service requirement is quite easy for the most part. All but a normal part of revalidation is needed.

Here are the COC requirements for revalidation:

So before you can renew your COC, you have to shell out longer time and more money. So the reasons above isn’t valid considering all the hassle once your COC or COP will expire.

In addtion, MISMO process may delay further your processing. No more walk-in processing apparently. Thus, it will require you to use MISMO to renew your COC or COP.
