Start with the Theoretical Examination…

As with all processes, gather first requirements for the exams:

While onboard, you can actually prepare for the OIC EW exam requirements.

Scan available documents listed in the requirements. Check all these requirements with you. The ones you can not accomplished onboard, list it down and process it when you get home.

So, probably the most time consuming of this gathering of requirements is TOR w/ S.O. (Special Order) Number. MARINA already removed the OIC Updating training to the process gets easier.

As of this writing, an applicant shall schedule his or her theoretical examination via the MISMO platform. Just gather all OIC EW MARINA Exams requirements and your application will be smooth.

As for our mates from Visayas and Mindanao, MARINA starts decentralization of STCW Functions away from the Central office. Thus, you can take examinations, file for COPs, COCs in select MARINA Offices across the country.

Practical Assessment

As of 2023, passers of theoretical examination will get an automatic practical assessment application number. Hence, there is no need to apply for practical assessment permit on MISMO.

Only those who did not use their license after 5 years will have to get the practical assessment permit. Practical assessment is one requirement for COC revalidation for those who weren’t able to use it.

Requirements are as follows:

For your sea service, use the sea service of your current rank. Make sure also to coordinate with your crewing agency regarding the encoding of your sea service to the MISMO system.

Other documentrary requirements…

After you pass both examinations, you can proceed to accomplish the remaining requirements for COC. Namely, COP for BT, MEFA, ATFF, PSCRB. If you have some of this items already and not yet COPied, you can process that together with your COC.

Additionally, prepare your company sea service and SIRB.
