Why trust matters in LDR

We all know trust is very difficult to build. That is why once starting out in a relationship, every couple should build that trust to each other right away. However, when in long distance relationship, that trust is tested each and every contract.

Trust side by side with love are two of the most important factors in a successful long distance relationship with seafarers. Being assured that our partners can be trusted upon while we are onboard is a big advantage to us. Firstly, we don’t have to deal with trust issues. Secondly, our peaceful mindset makes us focus to our ever-demanding job. Knowing that our partners and loved ones can be trusted back home makes us more confident that our hard work onboard is worth it.

Trust from Seafarer’s perspective

At this point, the trust of your partner in you should be sky-high. You are already in a faraway place, on your own. Be accountable to your other half, inform her if you have a chance of your whereabouts. Inform her that you are safe, about your schedule in port or at sea or of what you do, what port you are in and next port. Feed her information that will make her at peace and that she should not worry anything about your condition while away.

When you go ashore, inform them. Inform them that you’re going to this place or that. Do not try to hide anything from your partner. Be open and do not try to ruin that trust that is bestowed upon you.

Remember, Trust is like an eggshell, once broken, could never be whole again.

Trust from girlfriend’s perspective

Make sure that you are also trustworthy and accountable of your actions. Tell us what we need to know. It is our greatest nightmare to know something that you didn’t tell us, especially in delicate relationship issues. Tell us your itineraries or your plans while we’re away. Do not let us guess what you’re doing or who you’re with because our minds can pretty negative at times. A simple photo on Facebook can mean a lot to us onboard. Be careful on who you are with for most of us do not trust and do not like you to be with someone (guy) in a picture. So let us know everything that we need to know from your end.

Conclusion

One of the best thing couple can do is to be in constant, open communication and in the advent of social media, this is attainable. Most misunderstandings and quarrel happens when the other one is misinformed. By this, trust is tested, tainted and sometimes, broken. Most of the time if trust in each other fades will trigger a painfully devastating breakup. So, avoid anything that could lead to this, for trust take years to build, seconds to break and forever to rebuild.
